How to eat clean on a budget.
Eating clean on a budget, is it possible?
I’m here to tell you it is. You just have to be a little strategic in the way you approach it.
I’ve heard every excuse:
- ” I don’t eat clean, because it’s too expensive.”
- “How do people afford eating clean?”
- “I can eat unhealthy food for a cheaper price.”
Eating clean could be more expensive, if you purchase all the trending healthy food, buy all organic, and shop without a plan. However, i’ll be the first to tell you that they’re ways to eat cleaner on a budget, and even save money.
I also want you to take note on the fact that no unhealthy cheap processed food items are NOT worth damaging your health. It’s much easier to pay for the healthier foods now, instead of having to pay for the doctor bills later!
So let’s dive in, and start learning how to eat clean, and save!
1. Make A Grocery List
Preparation is key my friend. This will save you from browsing, and purchasing unwanted items that will just jack up your grocery bill.
If you want to succeed at saving some money, then you must plan ahead!
Make a list of your must have items, and do your best to stick with just buying the items on that list. Plan your recipes ahead of time as well, so you know all the ingredients you will need to ensure you don’t grab more then you really need.
You’re here to save, and stick within your budget right? I have the tips, but you need to execute them.
2. Don’t Shop Hungry
NEVER go grocery shopping when you’re starving! Don’t do it!
When you shop hungry, you will purchase items you don’t need because of your cravings in this moment of weakness. A majority of the time when we do this, we end up buying things we don’t really want to eat on a clean nutrition plan anyway.
Be mindful of this.
If you find you’re hungry, drink lots of water, and try to eat something prior to shopping. As a last resort, if you have no food around at least down allot of water, this will help expand, and satiate your stomach making you feel a little full.
3. Enjoy In Season Fruits / Veggies
The cost for in season products goes down, due to the increased availability. Making shopping on a budget for these items an advantage.
Doing this will not only give you amazing nutritious quality of the products because of the fact the fruits/veggies are in season, but you will not break the bank either. (it’s a win win)

4. Skipping The Organic
Not all produce need to be organic!
Yes, we want to be savvy of those items that may be sprayed with chemicals, pesticides, and only buy certain produce in organic.
They’re other produce items that don’t absorb much of those chemicals, and pesticides, and as a result, you can purchase outside the organic section too.
Produce items that don’t absorb much chemicals, that can be purchased non organic:
- Avocados
- Corn
- Pineapple
- Onions
- Eggplant
- Cauliflower
- Cantaloupe
- Broccoli
- Mushrooms
- Cabbages
- Asparagus
- Honeydew
- Kiwi
5. Buy Frozen Items
OMG Yes!
Foods that are frozen do still offer allot of nutritious value, because produce items are flash frozen when they’re at peak ripeness. So don’t shy away from frozen produce.
Many produce products can go bad quickly, so this is also a great way to help save you money, and to ensure you’re not wasting food, and throwing away your money.
Frozen food items also go on sale allot, you can find BOGO sales on them frequently, allowing you to stock up and save $$$.
So take advantage of the frozen food section in the grocery stores.
6. Buy In Bulk
Purchasing certain items in bulk can help your wallet a ton.
Shopping in bulk for items like rice, quinoa, potatoes, grains, nuts, and condiments like olive oil, and seasonings will help you save so you’re not constantly buying individual boxes of each.
The beauty of these healthy items, is that they last long, and you wont be needing to restock on it on a weekly basis.
7. Reuse Left Overs
It amazes me how many people waste food, because they don’t reuse their left over food items.
Y’all could seriously save so much money, and waste by taking those left overs, and creating/adding them into new dishes.
If you’re not the creative type, then put into google search your left over ingredients, and then type recipe.. watch how many recipe ideas pop up for you!
You’re welcome!
