How to control anxiety during the holidays?
Feeling anxious, and overwhelmed this holiday season?
Does your chest feel tight where you feel like you can barley breathe while your emotions are running wild?
These anxiety attacks are no fun, and so many of us feel this during the crazy holiday season sometimes. You’re all over the place trying to take care of everything that needs to get done, all while trying to balance your own health needs.
It’s allot, which is why I created simple ways on how you can calm your mind, emotions, and reduce anxiety in minutes this holiday season. These tips have helped me so I know they can help you as well.
Let’s get to it..
1. Go To A Quiet Place
When my mind is racing, and I feel my mind is getting pulled in a million directions. This is the first thing I do when I feel anxious is I turn off, and walk away from the computer, my to do list, and any noise such as radio, YouTube, TikTok, tv, people chatting, etc.
Go to a place without sound, and with no electronics. Doing this will immediately reduce that overwhelming feeling of what’s happening, and allow you to focus your mind on your breathe, or what’s directly around.
By just simply focusing on your breathe can help decrease heart rate, and slower your breathing, thus calming your nerves.
2. Get Out In Nature
Getting out in nature can literally soothe the soul, lower levels of anxiety, decrease depression, calm ADHD, boost immune system, and increase serotonin.
They’re so many benefits that nature offers to the body, and mind.
If you’re anything like me you love nature, yet you have to make time to get out in it. With our crazy schedules, along with holidays around the corner we literally have to make a time block for nature.
The sunlight itself provides vitamin D for the body, boosts immunity, and increases serotonin. The fresh air, and trees provide a clean source of air to fill your lungs with, and the sound of nature while you walk through the grass or sand are known to help ground you in the present moment, and release feel good hormones.
3. Journal Your Thoughts
The mind can easily get overwhelmed with life’s everyday to do’s. Making it hard for our mind to shut off, because we’re constantly thinking of all the things we have to take care of now, later, and next week. (not to mention all the what if scenarios we create in our heads)
Using a guided journal or just simply free writing what’s fogging your thoughts can free your mind of the chaos.
I personally find doing this in the a.m or p.m before bed has helped me so much with my anxiety. It’s literally taking all the thoughts, throwing them on paper, and then being able to structure a plan for those thoughts much easier.
4. Read A Book
Reading a book is another great way to calm the mind. It allows us to shut out the outside world, and focus on the content within the book.
Whether you enjoy fiction or non fiction, either is great when wanting to decrease anxiety.
I personally love self growth books, allowing me to focus on enhancing myself, and my life. These books in most cases offer great tips in helping control mind, and decrease stress.
5. Self Care
Taking care of your needs in any form that is for you is essential to a calmer mind. Whether that be taking a warm bubble bath, going to get a massage, enjoying a mani/pedi, etc.
Do whatever makes your soul feel good from the inside out. When you allow time to nurture, and spoil yourself, it’s refreshing and reenergizing.
You can focus better, and you have more energy throughout the days ahead.
I encourage you to find out what self care looks like to you, and execute it ASAP.
Good Luck Lovely!
